Then you will leave through Saingawe gate (West) to head to Karatu Stop en route near a Maasai village, the site overlooks Lake Manyara and offers a magnificent panorama. You will enjoy a bush lunch prepared in a traditional way by Maasai villagers. Then you will ascent the Rift Valley to Karatu. The rest of the afternoon will be at leisure : The lodge has a very nice swimming pool. You will also be able to discover the Agricole region of Bashay …
Ngorongoro Cratere.
The day will be dedicated to the discovery of the Ngorongoro Crater, classified in the UNESCO world heritage. From the lodge, it takes about 15 mn to join the NCA (Ngorongoro Conservation Area) and another 45 mn to reach the road which comes down in the crater. This runway, extremely abrupt, offers a luxurious landscape towards the heart of crater. From the bottom of the crater, we discover the first animals (buffaloes, zebras, gnus, gazelles) . The safari really begins in these 300 km² which form the base of this gigantic crater. Lions, rhinos, elephants, buffalo and leopard: The chances to meet the "big five" are high. Bush lunch on a privatised site. Continuation of the safari during the afternoon, on this magnificent site which offers at the same time a part of forests, plains and swamp ... And where we cross different fauna, in varied landscapes. Ascent of the crater in the end of the afternoon. Arrival at the camp, briefing and allocation of the tents. Then small walk (about 1 hour) to the summit of the “Kopjes” to face the sunset on the Serengeti plains... Return to the camp at night
Ngorongoro.
This day is the opportunity to learn more about the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Find out more about the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) : as opposed to a traditional National Park, men are allowed to live there and Maasai villages can be found in this area. Other interests in this area are the Olduvai site and its museum, the Shifting Sands, Olduvai & Olkarien gorges, Nassera Rock. Plans for the day include a visit to Olduvai Museum where the Museum director will be honoured to tell you a bit more about the site of Olduvai and the works of various anthropologists as well as a visit to a nearby Maasai village to learn more about this great people’s way of life. Great walks can also be organized in the NCA (easy walks to day trekkings with local Masai guides)
Olduvai gorges walking tour: Even if the walk can be done any time of the day, we do recommend leaving early morning, when the sun is still gentle! Perfect departure point: Olduvai Camp. A Massaï guide and an armed ranger will lead you to vast plains before to walk down a steep track. Step by step, different layers of the rock will reveal themselves and unveil, for some parts, rich areas of fossils. Deep down the gorges you will come across a stream, dry most of the time. The second half of the trek consists in walking on this stream bed up to the other side of the gorge. You do feel Humanity; Homo Erectus standing for the very first time is just by your side. A car will wait for you in front of Olduvai Museum. The visit can be a good way to get deeper knowledge on Olduvai site as well as the main discoveries which took place there. more »
